Project Spotlight: Modern Ensuite Transformation in Burn Brae, Westhill
The Goal: My client in the Burn Brae area of Westhill (located near Cradlehall Business Park) had an ensuite that hadn’t been touched in over 20 years. Beyond being dated, the 90s-style suite had hidden issues. Once I stripped the old tiles, I discovered damaged walls and a partially rotted floor—the kind of issues that need to be fixed properly before any new gear goes in.
How I Transformed the Space:
I rebuilt the room from the ground up to ensure it lasts another 20 years.
- Structural Prep: I replaced the damaged walls with fresh plasterboard and reinforced the floor with 6mm plywood to create a perfectly level, solid base.
- Modern Surfaces: I installed full-height PVC wall panels and finished the ceiling with matching panels for a 100% waterproof, low-maintenance finish. I sourced these locally from Ceilings 2 Floors in Inverness.
- High-End Fixtures:
- I installed a sleek black single-door shower enclosure paired with a thermostatic concealed shower for a high-end, minimalist look.
- I fitted a 600mm vanity unit for extra storage, complete with a mixer tap and click-clack waste.
- For a clean finish, I used a back-to-wall toilet with the cistern concealed inside a dedicated unit.
- The Professional Touch: I hung a heated towel rail with the pipework coming directly out of the wall rather than the floor. This not only looks much sharper but makes it far easier to clean the new LVT flooring.
